Applying social media marketing strategies

Ask a young Singaporean about MySpace, Friendster and Facebook, and they will almost certainly know what it is. Social networking in Singapore is prevalent among students from 13 to 19; there are some 34,000 youths on Facebook alone. So much so attention has been drawn to these sites that even young working adults are getting hooked on it. I, for one, am an avid user of Friendster and Facebook.
You may ask, “How is this relevant to me as a marketer?” The simple answer would be, “Targeting”. It is my opinion that these platforms can be used to drive marketing campaigns specifically targeted at select groups within these spaces by creating pages or channels to attract and retain a user base. I cannot emphasize enough on the importance of including these social networks into your online marketing plan.
I came across an interesting short article about the use of social media strategies to attain various objectives and offers some tips on employing social media in your next online marketing effort.
